Key Trends from in-cosmetics Paris

in-cosmetics Paris

Our Innovation & Creativity, and Purchasing Teams sent representatives to Paris to attend the in-cosmetics exhibition in April. They were tasked with searching out new and innovative materials and identifying emerging trends within the wider cosmetics industry.

They had many pre-arranged meetings with suppliers and customers as well as a well-planned strategy for navigating this huge exhibition to get the most out of their busy three-day visit. They were really challenged by the sheer scope of the exhibition as well as the myriad and diverse exhibitors. They managed to get to everything they wanted to and a few exhibits that were not on the agenda but were exciting and innovative concepts.

The following is a synthesis of the key trends that captured their attention:

Advancements in Well Aging Solutions

The pursuit of youthful skin remains a focal point for raw material innovators, evidenced by the proliferation of enhanced retinoids and their alternatives showcased at the event. Retinoids, a cornerstone of skincare regimens, witnessed notable improvements, reflecting an ongoing commitment to refining existing formulations. Additionally, rejuvenating the skin’s barrier function resurfaced as a prominent trend within the Well Aging category. While this concept has been established for years, recent shifts toward various exfoliating acids and retinoids underscore the importance of fortifying the skin’s protective barrier against aging induced by harsh ingredients.

Embracing Sustainability

A marked emphasis on sustainability permeated the exhibition, with a multitude of new ingredients derived from upcycled or traceable sources taking centre stage. While sustainability has steadily gained traction over time, this year witnessed a notable shift wherein the sourcing narrative was accorded equal significance alongside performance claims.

Pioneering Alternatives to Microplastics

In response to heightened consumer awareness and recent EU legislation banning non-degradable plastic materials in cosmetics, the industry has pivoted towards nature-derived alternatives. The emergence of modified natural gums, exhibiting a closer performance to synthetic counterparts, signifies a promising trajectory towards developing environmentally responsible substitutes.

Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The convergence of AI and cosmetics, once relegated to the realm of science fiction, is now a reality. Raw material manufacturers and researchers are leveraging AI to expedite the discovery of novel active ingredients tailored to address specific skincare concerns. Furthermore, AI is employed to elucidate the mode of action and analyse user trial results, underscoring its transformative potential within the cosmetic industry.

In-cosmetics serves as an invaluable platform for cosmetic scientists and brands to deepen their understanding of industry dynamics, forge connections with peers, and explore groundbreaking innovations. At Jarvis, we remain steadfast in our commitment to staying abreast of industry trends, ensuring that we continually deliver cutting-edge cosmetic solutions to our esteemed customers.
