Environmental

Environmental factors refer to our company's impact on the natural environment, such as our use of natural resources, energy efficiency, waste management, and carbon emissions.


Governance

Governance factors refer to our company's management and governance structure. Our ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability are helping drive our business towards a successful and sustainable future.


Social

Social factors refer to our company's impact on society, such as our labour practices, diversity and inclusion policies, community engagement, and human rights record. Every employee has a voice at Jarvis and this is one reason it is a great place to work.

Since I joined the company back in 1986 things have changed dramatically.  At that time there were no requirements to register products, include INCI lists, or even get products tested. It was a case of; make it, market it, and see what happened. 

Today, 37 years later, such action would be seen, quite rightly, as grossly irresponsible.  However, it is still possible to form a company, and launch a brand without any consideration for sustainability, environment, ethical supply chain, social responsibility, and responsible corporate governance.  In short it is both possible (and legal) to be cavalier and reckless regarding these matters.  I suspect in 30 years’ time many people will look back and ask, “did we really do it like that, could we really just launch a company or a product without taking ESG issues into account?”   

The team at Jarvis all understand this and rather than wait for legislation to tell us to do the right thing we decided to act; we are doing the right things, right here, right now, and we are committed to encouraging all those with whom we do business, to do the same.  

The opportunities are considerable.  The new generations of consumers are having a massive effect on the shift away from best value to best practice when selecting which brands they choose, and their enthusiasm and knowledge is educating the older generations. To this end Jarvis are proud to retain a highly motivated and highly skilled youthful team at the centre of product and ethical development.

Of course, there is a premium, but what price can you place on a positive future? In a recent article it was noted that when investors started opting for sustainable investing, and excluding from their portfolios, organisations with negative or questionable practices, they did so in the knowledge that there would be smaller financial returns in return for a clear conscience.  Remarkably, such is the investor interest and demand for companies with effective ESG policies that their actual returns have often been equal to those without.  It is not a fad, it is the future, and we believe customers willing to invest in serious ESG will ultimately reap greater rewards.
